CONCEALER – HIGH COVERAGE is a must-have in any makeup bag, and full coverage liquid concealer. From camouflaging acne to erasing dark under-eye circles and even highlighting, liquid concealer is hard to beat when it comes to performance.
How to use
Choose the shade. Concealer comes in a variety of shades and colours, so analyse the skin first to determine what is needed.
Prep the face. Always apply concealer to clean, moisturised skin. Double check that any darkness under the eyes is not just yesterday’s mascara - gently cleanse to make sure even the stubbornness bits have been removed. Concealer is the first step when applying makeup, and will go on best over a blank canvas.
Cover up under eye circles. Use the concealer applicator or fingertips (although fingertips are not always cleanest) to dab concealer under the eyes. Apply the concealer in an upside down triangle. Draw a triangle from one end of the eye to the other, bringing the point down the cheek. Blend the concealer in around the edges, so there is no obvious change in tone between the skin and the concealer.
Apply concealer to acne and spots. If acne, dark spots, sun spots, scars, or birthmarks appear, it’s nice to know they can be covered, if desired. Dab concealer on top of each mark, and then blend softly. Use a thin layer of conceale
r and apply more if necessary. It is best to build coverage slowly, to avoid looking ‘cakey’.
Set the concealer. When all blemishes have been covered and the concealer blended, add a layer of powder over the top. Leave for a few minutes before brushing off any excess.
Apply foundation. Once the concealer has set, the next step is to put on foundation. Choose between liquid, cream or mist foundations to create an even skin tone and natural shadows or bronzed areas. Apply some bronzer to the cheekbones, inside contours of the nose, and around the edges of the face to add dimension and life to the skin. natural shadows or bronzed areas. Add bronzer. Covering the face with concealer and foundation smoothes out the complexion, but also removes any natural shadows or bronzed areas. Apply some bronzer to the cheekbones, inside contours of the nose, and around the edges of the face to add dimension and life to the skin.

Orange concealers: This colour is suitable for darker skin tones. An orange concealer is the best option for covering dark circles or other spots with deep discolouration.
Neutral concealers: Any regular concealer works well to veil small imperfections or an occasional pimple. Choose a shade similar to the skin tone, or one shade lighter.
Yellow concealers: They are perfect for hiding purple or blue bruises, veins, and under-eye circles, hence yellow being right across from purple on the colour wheel. Yellow concealers are the best option to obtain a bright base for foundation.
Green concealers: The colour green neutralises the colour red, which is why green concealers are wonderful for cov¬ering any redness on the skin. Use a green based concealer to remove redness from spots, or any acne scars. If the skin has widespread redness, (rosacea, windburn or sunburn), a green primer would be the best choice to reduce redness for an even toned base and flawless foundation application.
Purple, lavender or lilac concealers: These are suitable for eliminating any unwanted yellow undertones. Skin types with a dull complexion will appreciate how a purple concealer adds a beautiful glow to the skin. Purple is directly across from yellow on the colour wheel. So to combat yellow tones in the skin, consider a purple colour correcting primer. To conceal yellow spots, a concealer is the best solution.
Pink concealers: This concealer is a mix between a salmon and peach colour and is ideal for brightening the eye area and covering signs of fatigue. This particular concealer colour is a mixture of red, orange, and yellow hues that are across from the darker colours on the colour wheel. Pink is therefore a brilliant shade to combat dark under-eye circles. Since it is a great brightening agent, pink concealer also works well to give sallow olive toned skin a much-needed radiance.
HOW TO USE
Mastering the art of concealer has a lot to do with understanding the basics of colour correction. An easy tool to use when trying to master colour correcting, is the colour wheel. For instance, red is directly across from green on the colour wheel. The green colour will neutralise the red, hence green concealer works best to cover red blemishes.
